It’s actually happening! After almost a year of planning, prepping, building, and squirreling away time after work, we’re ready to launch Game Pad Ink — a game-review webcomic created by two brothers and game-industry vets!
Q: Who are you?
A: We are Nate and Nick Robinson, real-life siblings, Seattle-area residents, and co-op partners by birth. Our comics are written and drawn by Nate, who has worked at places like PopCap and ArenaNet, while our site and visual identity were built by Nick, an Xbox designer by day. We like long walks on the beach, avoiding responsibility, and playing and discussing games of all kinds. And for the better part of the last year, our extracurricular time has been largely consumed by this new project.
Q: What is Game Pad Ink?
A: It’s our weekly webcomic that reviews a different video game with every update. Each comic will be paired with a podcast and video, in which we’ll go in-depth into our thoughts on that week’s game.
Q: What’s this reference to “Patreon” or “patrons?”
A: Perhaps the aspect of our webcomic that we’re most excited about is co-creating the strip with you! As part of launching Game Pad Ink, we are also launching a Patreon campaign. It’s a lot like a Kickstarter, only instead of helping fund one large project, it allows you to provide regular support to creators like us whose ongoing work you enjoy.
For as little as $1/month, you’ll get access to a bunch of extra rewards and content — such as the ability to help select what we play next! Check out our Patreon page for all the details!
Q: If you’ve just launched, why are there so many comics already?
A: We’ve seeded our archive with a few of Nate’s comics from his previous project, Man v. Backlog. Some don’t quite match our vision for Game Pad Ink, but we like them enough to keep around for now. Some characters are different (Nick was completely absent previously) and a lot of peripheral elements have changed, but we hope these comics are still fun to read!
Anyhow, that’s it for now. We’ll have a few more blog posts after of our launch, so check back before too long. And keep up with our launch by following us on Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube. Stay tuned!
