Patron Picks: How to choose what we play!

When Nick and I started discussing the idea of Game Pad Ink, one of the central pillars of our vision was for our readers to help participate in creating our content. To that end, we created the Patron Pick, which gives people like YOU the chance to pick what we play!

We’ve recently completed our first Patron Pick and have gotten a few questions about how this whole process works, so here’s a brief rundown on the rules and how you can get involved!

1. Check out our Patreon. If you’re unfamiliar with Patreon, it’s a crowd-funding platform that allows you to directly support creators whose work you enjoy and at an amount that you set and control.

2. Subscribe for $1/month. We’ve set the threshold as low as possible for participating in the Patron Pick because we want as many of our readers as possible to get involved. Of course, you can opt to pledge at a higher amount if you want some of the cool bonuses we put together, like behind-the-scenes content, early access to comics, or even t-shirts!

3. Watch for the monthly post. At the beginning of the month, we’ll make a post on Patreon calling for game nominations. This post will also contain all the eligibility rules for nominations — mostly restrictions on platform, Early Access, adult themes, or self-promotion.

4. Comment with your vote. All votes are potential winners, but the more votes a particular game gets, the more likely it is to win.

5. See which game is selected! At the end of the month, we’ll tally up all the results and spin The Wheel of Picking™ to determine which game is added to our review slate for the following month. At this point, a new post calling for game nominations will be created and the whole cycle will renew!

Here’s a look at the whole process with our first Patron Pick, from the initial call for nominations and game selection video, to the eventual comic review, video, and podcast.

Do you have a game you want to see us cover? Just hop over to Patreon and get started — we can’t wait to create GPI with you!
